About Me – From My Grandmother’s Kitchen to Yours
Hi, I’m Alex – the heart, hands, and hungry soul behind Recipes Alex.
If you had told me as a kid that I’d one day build an entire blog around food, I probably would’ve laughed – with a mouth full of my grandmother’s warm, buttery baklava. Because back then, food wasn’t content or clicks. It was comfort. It was the scent of cinnamon and cardamom waking me up on a Sunday morning. It was the sound of my grandmother humming as she kneaded dough, her fingers moving like magic, like she wasn’t just cooking – she was telling stories.
My journey with food didn’t start in a fancy kitchen or culinary school. It started at a small wooden table in my grandmother’s cozy kitchen, surrounded by pots that never quite matched and spices tucked into old jam jars. She came from a time and place where cooking was never about perfection – it was about love. Every recipe she made carried the flavors of her memories, her homeland, and the generations before her.
She never followed written recipes. “The food tells you what it needs,” she would say. And I believed her. Watching her cook was like watching a quiet performance – instinctive, emotional, and full of heart. Whether it was her slow-cooked stews, her secret-recipe rice, or the desserts she somehow always made out of “whatever we had,” every meal she made was unforgettable.
As I grew older, I found myself drifting into the kitchen more and more, trying to recreate her magic. Of course, I failed at first. A lot. But somewhere between the burnt pans and the under-seasoned dishes, I began to understand: food isn’t just about getting it right. It’s about enjoying the process, learning through doing, and sharing it with people you love.
That’s what Recipes Alex is all about.
This blog is my tribute to my grandmother – to her patience, her creativity, and her ability to bring people together around a table. Here, you’ll find recipes inspired by her dishes, as well as flavors I’ve discovered on my own journey. From Mediterranean classics to modern comfort food, every post comes with a story, a tip, or a memory.
I write this blog for fellow food lovers – for beginners who’ve never boiled an egg, for home cooks looking to impress, and for anyone who believes that food is more than just something we eat. It’s tradition, it’s connection, and it’s joy.
So whether you’re here to learn, to be inspired, or just to scroll through mouthwatering photos – welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.
Now let’s cook something unforgettable – together.
